Statement on the International Refugee Crisis

The photographs are heart breaking and the media reports disturbing, tens of thousands of refugees fleeing death from war, persecution and hunger. As Europeans we acknowledge the humanitarian crisis that has unfolded on our doorstep and the intolerable human suffering endured by those entwined in its horrific reality.

To the Governments, Leaders and NGO’s seeking to find solutions, we realise that the situation is complex and there are no easy answers, our prayers are with you as you grapple with unfathomable challenges

To the Irish and UK Government’s, we call on you to prioritise an immediate response to this crisis and by doing so minimise further suffering of the most vulnerable. We call on you to increase the number of refugees that will be received in our lands and by example guide us as citizens to respond proactively.

To our Members and Supporters, we cannot turn our backs on this situation. As Christians our divine mandate is to love and to welcome the stranger, as Christ has demonstrated. We call for your hospitality, prayers and compassion for those that will seek refuge in our communities.
